The Blue Room is a lounge bar and cafe in eastern Lytton. Established and operated by retired Lytton Police Department officer Bobby Lopez, it is a popular hangout for cops in the city.

The Blue Room is the setting of two important meetings between officers Sonny Bonds and Jack Cobb, where Jack opens up about his family troubles, and particularly his daughter Kathy's burgeoning drug abuse problem.

The Blue Room was closed less than a year after the arrest of Jessie Bains.

Location and Layout[]

The Blue Room is located on Lytton's 9th Street, between Fig and Peach, close to the shore of the Clearwater River bordering the city to the east. It has its own parking bay out front, which it shares with a nearby department store and other businesses. A large flashing neon sign above the door advertises the establishment.

The Blue Room itself contains multiple tables and chairs, which were acquired at a swap meet ten years prior to Jessie Bains' arrest, as well as a counter in front of the bar. Personal photographs of proprietor Bobby Lopez are hung on each wall.

The bar also sports a state-of-the-art jukebox featuring advanced technology, including a video display showing the artists being played (though that particular feature is out of order).

The Business[]

Officers of the Lytton Police Department visit the Blue Room often. In particular, officer Jack Cobb was so fond of drinking at the Blue Room that his family's home answering machine specifically noted that he probably could be found there.

The Blue Room serves both beer and coffee. Coffee is free for police officers.

Jack's Birthday Party[]

PQ1EGA Character JackCobb SurpriseParty

Following the end of Sonny Bonds' first shift (after arresting drunk driver Art Serabian), he returned to the Lytton Police Station on Sergeant John Dooley's orders to observe the most recent prank by the Gremlin. As Sonny went to change into his civilian clothes, several other officers approached him to let him know that they were about to throw a surprise birthday party for his friend, officer Jack Cobb, at the Blue Room.

Sonny changed clothes and drove his private Corvette to the bar, where he found Jack drinking alone. Jack revealed to Sonny that he had just learned that his daughter was doing drugs, which Jack suspected she had acquired at her school, Jefferson High. He added that his marriage was now on the rocks, due to his own alcoholic tendencies.

As Jack finished speaking, officer Keith (Robinson) arrived, followed by another man who brought a cake. Before the surprised Jack could react, dancer "Hoochy Coochy" Hannah Small entered the establishment, holding a bunch of helium balloons. She danced around Jack and kissed him a few times, then released the balloons which floated to the ceiling.

After Hannah left, Keith suddenly remembered that he had previously switched shifts with Sonny Bonds, which meant that Sonny had to quit the party early and hurry to the police station the start another shift.

Later Events[]

After Sonny Bonds' temporary promotion to the Narcotics Department, he and detective Laura Watts performed a stake-out at Lytton City Park where they observed a drug deal between Victor Simms and Donald Colby. The two were arrested on-site.

Simms turned out to be a student at Jefferson High School, and was likely the pusher who supplied drugs to Kathy Cobb. As such, after the two men were deposited at Lytton City Jail, Watts suggested that Bonds drive to the Blue Room to tell Jack Cobb the good news.

Arriving at the Blue Room, Bonds found officer Cobb already heavily drunk. Cobb explained that his daughter had just fallen into a coma induced by a drug overdose. Seeing Cobb's condition, Bobby Lopez called a taxi, and the driver escorted Cobb out of the establishment.

At that point, Officer Keith arrived and announced to Bonds that Jason Taselli, whom Bonds had secured a No-Bail Warrant against, had escaped from Lytton City Jail; and that a manhunt had been initiated to recapture him.

Differences in the Remake[]

In Police Quest: In Pursuit of the Death Angel (SCI), the Blue Room is portrayed as more of a family restaurant or cafe than a bar. It has outdoor seating with parasols, and a large menu advertising its food. Inside, it appears more similar to a diner - in the vein of Carol's Caffeine Castle as it was portrayed in the original game.

The proprietor of the bar is named Bobby Gomez.

At Jack's party, Hannah Small is replaced by Kayleigh, though her function is identical in both games.

Behind the Scenes[]

There is a neon sign in the window of the EGA version that says "BUD". This implies that the establishment serves Budweiser beer.
