Laura Waters is an officer of in the Lytton Police Department, assigned to the Burglary Department. Her service record appears in the LPD computer system, but Waters herself has never been seen by Sonny Bonds. As per her record, Waters joined the department only a couple of years prior to the escape of Jessie Bains from Lytton City Jail. She received a commendation for rescuing a drowning child while off-duty.

Laura Waters is the only LPD officer to have a record in the LPD computer system without ever appearing at the Lytton Police Station nor anywhere else. As a result, it is commonly assumed that this record actually belongs to Laura Gomez, a Burglary detective whose name doesn't appear on any records.

Behind the scenes[]

Laura Waters exists only as a record in the Personnel directory of the LPD computer system in Police Quest II. She is the only LPD police officer to have a computer record in that game without ever having had any physical presence. However, there is a detective in the Burglary department named Laura Gomez, who is the only police officer in the game who has a physical presence without having a service record in the computer. It is quite possible that the two characters are the same, and that a writing error resulted in different surnames.

This speculation is further supported by the existence of Laura Watts, Bonds' partner from the Narcotics division in the original Police Quest, who has a record in the system. It is possible that the writers decided that the names "Laura Waters" and "Laura Watts" were too similar, and changed the new one to "Gomez" - but forgot to change the service record to reflect this.

Additionally, this record includes one of the more obvious errors in the game: Waters is listed as having been born in 1964 (making her around 23 years old at the start of PQ2), and having joined the department in 1985 (around 21 years old), but also receiving a departmental commendation for her actions in 1971 - at the age of 7.
