In Police Quest 1 EGA and Police Quest 2 the narrator is less serious than it turns out to be in the later darker games in the series (and the Police Quest 1 remake). Like other classic Sierra games of the EGA era, the narrator is not shy from being snarky or cracking jokes at the player's expense. Especially for the games many deaths. The narrator of the first two games (and in the game itself) is not shy from breaking the fourth wall, and allowing the player to contact characters such as Al Lowe over the phone, as well encountering or reading about a number of crossover characters from other Sierra games.
The second game even has a 'buddy cop show feel to it.
