Oscar Hamilton is a detective with the Lytton Police Department Homicide Division. Hamilton is one of the first policemen to arrive on the scene of Lonny West's car crash / murder, together with Sergeant John Dooley. He investigates the scene and later contacts Sonny Bonds to let him know he'd identified the driver as West. Later, he calls Lt. James Morgan to inform him that Jason Taselli had been murdered "execution-style".

Oscar Hamilton first appeared during the Lonny West murder. After Sonny Bonds had finished inspecting the scene and questioning an eye-witness, a patrol car bearing Sgt. John Dooley and detective Hamilton appeared on the scene. At that point, Dooley officially transferred the investigation to Hamilton's hands, and released Bonds back to his patrol duties.
Later, while Bonds and fellow officer Steve Johnson were taking a break together at Carol's Caffeine Castle, Hamilton called the establishment and asked to speak with Bonds. He revealed that his investigation of the murder victim uncovered his identity as Lonny West, a local small-time drug dealer. Hamilton added that West was the second drug dealer to be murdered in Lytton over the past two weeks.
Finally, during the preparation stage for the Hotel Delphoria undercover operation, Hamilton called the office of Lt. James Morgan of the Narcotics division. In a conversation between the two, Hamilton revealed that his investigation of Jason Taselli's murder has determined that Taselli was killed "execution-style" before being dumped into the water at Cotton Cove. Hamilton's investigation likely helped to convict Jessie Bains on the count of murder.
